RE: ARREST OF TARI NICKALOUS RAMIREZ Arthur Balizan, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the San Francisco Office of the FBI, today announced the arrest of Tari Ramirez, age 33, on Thursday, June 15, 2006, for Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution (UFAP). Ramirez was arrested without incident near Cancun, Mexico by Mexican authorities. On 10/22/2000, a domestic dispute resulted in the stabbing death of Ramirez’ girlfriend, Claire Tempongko, at her San Francisco residence. Shortly thereafter, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Ramirez. An extensive investigation by the San Francisco Police Department indicated that Ramirez may have fled the country to avoid prosecution. On 11/01/2000 Ramirez was charged by the San Francisco United States Attorney's Office, Northern District of California, with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution (UFAP) in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1073. Recent leads received by San Francisco FBI indicated that Ramirez may have been using an alias while living in the vicinity of Cancun, Mexico. This information was used to conduct further investigation which led to the arrest of Ramirez this morning. Ramirez will be extradited to the United States to face local charges by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office. Ramirez’ arrest culminates a fugitive investigation conducted by the FBI’s San Francisco’s Safe Streets/Violent Crime Task Force, (SSVCTF) in conjunction with the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office (SFDAO) under the provisions of the Fugitive Felon Act. Media inquiries regarding this matter should be addressed to Special Agent LaRae Quy, FBI, San Francisco at (415) 553-7450. |
