FORMER UCSF EMPLOYEE SENTENCED ON PUBLIC-CORRUPTION CHARGESSAN FRANCISCO – United States Attorney Scott N. Schools announced that Steven Donnelly, a former buyer in UCSF’s Procurement Office, was sentenced to 35 months imprisonment on public-corruption charges in connection with allegations that Mr. Donnelly, who was involved in the competitive bidding process for a contract to install fiber obtics to connect all of UCSF’s satellite offices in the San Francisco Bay Area, sold confidential bid information to one of the vendors bidding on the UCSF contract in exchange for $5000.00. In addition to sentencing Donnelly to 35 months imprisonment, United States District Court Judge William H. Alsup also ordered Donnelly to pay $5000 in restitution and to serve 3 years of supervised release when he has completed his incarceration. Mr. Donnelly, 45, admitted to providing confidential bid information contained on a bid to another company that was competing to be awarded the fiber optics project. "UCSF was entitled to honest services and a truly competitive bidding process on this important fiber optics project," U.S. Attorney Schools said. "In this case, an employee of UCSF breached this duty of honest services by undermining the competitive bidding process. My Office is committed to investigating and rooting out corruption." Robin Harris is the Assistant U.S. Attorney who is prosecuting the case with the assistance of Ana Guerra. The prosecution is the result of a two month investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
